Beliansh Assefa (bell-eye-nesh ah-sef-ah) is a music supervisor, producer and on-screen talent partnering with brands to tell stories. Her specialty is African Diasporic storytelling.
Based in New York, hailing from Tigray, and raised in Kansas City, MO., Beliansh earned a degree in International Development and Social Change with a specialization in African Diasporic Human Rights from Clark University and SOAS University of London (School of Oriental and African Studies). Beyond Development, her formal education extends to music theory, sound recording, and the music business.
Beliansh composed her first song at eight years old. Sixteen years later she got her first formal music business job at Kobalt Music Publishing. She has worked closely with an extensive list of composers, artists, music houses, publishers, and labels. She has worked with a variety of brands, including Pantene, Gillette-Venus, Tumi, International Hotel Group, Applebee’s, Trulicity, Las Vegas, McCormick, MassMutual, Frank’s Red Hot, Ideal Image, and more.
Beliansh speaks on and moderates panels concerned with music, music in advertising, music synchs, identity, history, culture, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. She organizes showcases and curates bespoke playlists. She acts and models for local NY productions and international brands–from MadMax Studios to A Bathing Ape+.
Beliansh is currently a music producer at Townhouse/GREY NY and is acting as Aisha in the upcoming web series Quarter Life.
